Sandy was certified by the Board for Certification of Genealogists (BCG) 1993-2018, and will maintain continuing association with BCG in a retired status. She is Past President of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) 2005-2008, past member of the Board of Directors of APG 2005-2008, and continues active involvement as the Chapter Representative for the National Capital Area Chapter.
A past winner of the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Family History Writing Contest, she was the 2009 winner of the prestigious Grahame T. Smallwood Jr. Award of Merit by the APG. She served as the Mentor for ProGen Study Groups 13 (2011-2013) and 31 (2016-2018).
